I hate to be the bearer of bad news, Ron, but this transition is coming whether or not you or I approve of it. I agree with you that “in the real world, real people do real things,” — like suffer from poverty when they lose their job at the local factory. Even if a robot can’t be a plumber, millions of people’s jobs are still threatened by automation. Namely, large swathes of the manufacturing, transportation, and service sectors, including white-collar jobs.
Once again, you’ve just stamped your feet in stubborn denial rather than offer a counter-argument. You’ve called wealth redistribution “an idiotic proposal” without saying why. Talk is cheap.
I await your detailed essay on why the economy can survive in the future without UBI. You have to explain yourself if you want to be taken seriously.
