1. Just because Oscar Wilde may have promoted pure socialism doesn’t mean I do. I simply quoted a felicitous passage from an essay he wrote.
  2. Social democracy, à la Bernie Sanders and AOC, wouldn’t involve taxing the poor lol. I don’t know where you get that from. They both promote raising tax revenue from the super rich, as do I.
  3. Unfettered capitalism, on the other hand, has rewarded the rich and punished the middle class and poor for decades. If you actually read my whole essay, along with other articles I’ve written, you’ll understand why.
  4. Les gilets jaunes in France are angry at the high fuel tax, it’s true. But they’re also angry about caps on pensions and welfare benefits, about cuts to public sector jobs, and about tax cuts for corporations and rich citizens. In other words, they’re angry that President Macron is shrinking the size of government, too. So it’s not as simple as saying “people hate socialism.” In this case, to some extent, they hate losing its benefits.
