I think my assertion is compatible with the fact that most professional chefs are male, because they could still have made the social trade-off calculation I mentioned. My assertion is particularly plausible if we consider “culinary arts” in its wider definition, which includes cooking in the home. In my experience, at least, women tend to be more experienced cooks than men.
